#My500Words: Day 30 of 31 "How Do Your Friends Inspire You?"
“Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers, and thinkers, but most of all, surround yourself with those who see the greatness within you, even when you don’t see it yourself” Edmund Lee.
The saying goes that you are who you surround yourself with, so choose carefully. If you surround yourself with those who have joy and passion, you’ll have just as much or even greater joy and passion. Surround yourself with friends who are becoming the best versions of themselves. Be inspired by them.
We should view our closest friends as extended family members as they play a critical role in defining who we are. Your closest friends, family, and acquaintances are all a reflection of you. They are a reflection of your values and energy. It’s important that you surround yourself with the like-minded. It is also important that you surround yourself with individuals who have the same ambition, purpose, and goals in life.
I couldn’t be happier and honored to have so many friends not only doing dope sh*t but doing dope sh*t in the things that they love. They are creators, innovators, and all leaders in their respective fields. They never settled for what society or outside influences told them how to live their lives. Instead, my friends follow their passion and heart and have persistently chased their dreams. Which in the end has inspired me to do the same, to chase my dreams in the same fashion; unapologetically and with all of my joy and ambition.
Be inspired by your friends who are not only driven to make a difference in the world but who are also never content or stagnant. Be inspired by your closest friends and family and be sure to always support them in all of their endeavors. We must be able to learn and grow from those around us. However, we can only grow from outside of our comfort zones. If you share the same comfort zones with your friends then there will be no growth.
Before any dream can become a reality, there must first be a vision that outlines the roadmap to the final destination. Once you reach the destination, a lot of people may not be aware of the often-treacherous journey that it took to get there. It’s during those treacherous times is when most people tend to give up. The few that make through do so because of the support and inspiration from those around them.
Those same friends, myself included, who are innovators and creators all, had a treacherous journey and past that wasn’t always so bright. But through our support of one another, both directly and indirectly, we are all closer to where we want to be in life. We have proudly elevated and inspired each other to be musicians, fashion designers, models, designers, models, photographers, and students in top master programs, and digital marketers.
We are creative leaders in all of our fields, inspired and elevated by one another. Once someone achieves a new level, it pushes you to reach that same attainment. I like to think it’s called “friendly” competition for a reason. The competition is never negative or out of jealousy instead it’s far from that. We want to see each be the best that we can be, as friends, and the competition makes it possible.
Your friends and family is the greatest network that you will ever have. One of my cousins recently texted me the other day and said that 2017 would be my year. I responded that it’d be OUR year. 2017 will be the year for all of us, collectively as we push and inspire each other by realizing that anything is possible.
2017 is the Rocketship year because all of your friends and family who are on your same Rocketship will take-off. Be sure that those on your Rocketship are the same people you will want to surround yourself with once you reach space. Will they inspire you to reach the next galaxy? Will they push you to keep going? Most importantly, will they make you and the Rocketship better?
We all have friends, but it is the friends that we choose to be on our Rocketship that are the ones we should hold close. 2017 is our year; make sure that your Rocketship is ready for take-off.
