Change is Weird “A Short Essay”

“Buy the ticket, take the ride…and if it occasionally gets a little heavier than what you had in mind, well… maybe chalk it off to forced conscious expansion: Tune in, freak out, get beat” Hunter S. Thompson (from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas).
Change

Change is weird. A bizarre, sometimes, but often, self-inflicted circumstance caused by our own conscious actions.

Which may be a reason why we fear change. We fear the truth, that change is in our best interest, because to be self-aware, is actually, kind of scary.

Change is the unknown, the least charted territory.

Currently, I’m going through a lot of change. I recently made the decision to move back home to Los Angeles in a week, which is…weird.

Never would I have expected to move back home. As I’ve always told not only myself but also those around me, that the east coast would be my home for the foreseeable future.

That’s changed, which still…feels weird.

At the same time, I am confident about the decision however weird it may be.

In all honesty, I don’t know what lies ahead for me. I don’t know where my next job is going to be. I don’t know what lifestyle I’ll be living, the new or old friendships that I’ll build. I have no idea what the future in L.A. entails, or even if, it will pan out to be the best decision.

Even with all the uncertainty, it still feels good.

It’s weird. I don’t know about you, but have you ever gotten this feeling where something feels right. Like it’s the missing piece to your life puzzle. I’ve had that same feeling about moving back home.

It’s that affirmation within myself — having that self-awareness to get out of a situation where I wasn’t genuinely happy — that’s what makes me confident in my belief that this change is good. Even though, it still may feel weird.

That even if I fail, even if the path doesn’t go the route that I wanted it to, even if everything goes to sh*t, I still took the risk. I buckled up for the ride. For that, I’ll always know that it was the right decision.

“Anything that gets your blood racing is probably worth doing” Hunter S. Thompson.

Change is weird.

Sometimes it comes when you least expect it. It is the unexpected where you learn the lessons that have the greatest impact on your life. I’m starting to understand the saying, “The destination is the journey”. Your life is defined by all the components that make up the journey.

Life is a path that is undefined, a road unpaved. We all have our own life journey, but we decide how we pave it.

It is up to us to define life.

As we continue to define our journeys, it may seem like there are a million different options and roads for us to take. Well, that’s because there is.

We all have choices. The choices that we consciously make are what makes us unique as humans. We have been gifted the treasure of choice. These things that we choose define us.

Although unexpected, my move to Los Angeles has defined a part of my journey. I made the decision to change, a choice that was primarily based on happiness. A choice that will now define my journey, a journey that I once tried to define — but life’s choices ended up defining it for me.

Change is weird.

However weird it may be, all change defines your life and life change is best when it intuitively feels right — it’s only weird once you understand and realize why.

“The only real valuable thing is intuition” Albert Einstein.

You will realize that your soul is speaking through you, as your intuition is just your soul revealing itself. We have to listen, especially in times of uncertainty. Because if we do, we’ll never choose the wrong journey. It will always be the destination.

Change is weird, but being weird is the truest thing that we can do. To be weird is to be authentically you.

So, here’s a note to us:

Take the road less traveled.

Go after that new job.

Move to a new city.

Take that trip that you’ve always dreamed of.

Don’t follow your passion, but pursue it, vigorously.

It may get weird on the way.

But that’s okay.

Change is weird.

But please do, change.
